EquityBase — Stock Theme & Sector Momentum Tracker

EquityBase tracks 42 curated market themes — baskets of stocks that each express one idea — and ranks them by return across six windows, from a single day to year to date. Everything is built from adjusted daily closes and refreshed once per trading day. No account is needed to read the board.

Which window to read

The board sorts by one-month return by default, and the one- and three-month columns are what the rest of the design is built around. A single week mostly records what was bought that week — an earnings reaction, a headline, a squeeze — and is short enough for one news cycle to produce the entire number. A month is long enough that a move has to be funded rather than announced; a quarter is long enough to show whether the money stayed. A strong one-month return against a flat three-month is a theme that has recently turned. Strong on both is an established trend, already partly priced. A weak one-month under a strong three-month is a leader losing its bid.

Why equal weight

A theme's return is the plain average of its members' returns, not weighted by company size. Cap-weighting would turn AI Infrastructure into a chart of its largest member and little else. Equal weight answers a different question: is the theme moving, or just the biggest name in it?

Breadth — is the move real?

Because the headline number is an average, one outlier can carry a basket that is otherwise flat. Each theme shows how many members moved with the basket and the median against the mean, so a move carried by a single stock is visible rather than hidden.

The market map

The market map encodes two things at once: box area is a theme's combined market cap, and colour is its equal-weight return. Size shows how much of the market a theme represents while colour stays an honest read on the theme itself.
